both are great, it depends what you need to work on your body, pilates takes more muscular strength.
you can combine both in yr work out because they are similar. some yoga tips here
Pilates is more intense so your heart is pumping more blood than Yoga.
They are different. I don’t have much experience with pilates but it appears to be a good workout for your core muscles. I love yoga however, and feeling all stretched out and flexible (no expensive machines required).
It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish, and what you like best. Give them both a try and see what works for you.
Hi there! All I can offer is a totally personal opinion. They are both great and are similar in some areas. However, after doing them both for an extended period of time, I much prefer Pilate’s. It is amazing what is does for your core area abs, etc. If you have ever had a back problem this is the one for you! Hope that helps.
depends on the type of pilates and yoga as well as what kind of workout you’re looking for. in terms of the amount of sweat and effort, ashtanga and vinyasa yoga classes are better workouts than mat pilates classes. bikram yoga (aka hot yoga) and power yoga (a faster, freer flowing ashtang form) are both really hard workouts. i’ve heard that bikram yoga can burn as much as 500-600 calories. pilates offers more toning and stretching and the classes that you get to use the pilates machine, the reformer, are much harder than the mat classes.
personally i prefer bikram and power yoga because you get a really good, hard workout. and some yoga teachers will put in some pilates work at the end for core and ab work.
Pilates is for strenght training (building muslce) and yoga is for stretching to acquire flexibility!
