To burn fat, including belly fat, you have to do aerobic exercise, so walking is much more beneficial. Pilates strengthens and tones muscles, but to walk and a nutritious diet will help burn fat.

The genius of Pilates is that it is, as you have guessed, a combination of aerobic, strength training, toning, and mind/body/spirit connection. It (or yoga) perfectly complements a resistance training and aerobic training regimen. But Pilates is not an efficient way to burn calories (or use oxygen, which is what 'aerobic' means). So Pilates won't easily help you lose weight. Recumbent stationary bikes are a possibility (non-weight bearing), as is swimming. But do keep up with the Pilates: feeling good about yourself after exercise is a great thing!

No, they are both anaerobic, which means they don't raise your heart rate and make you consume any more oxygen than normal. They are good stretching, relaxing and meditation type exercises, if you are into that sort of thing. But, they are as anaerobic as lifting weights or staring into space.

i almost don't think that yoga/pilates counts as "aerobic".

it is exercise though.

and any exercise is good exercise.

if you're interested, take a martial art.

karate, kung fu, those kinds of things.

*(good luck finding the right style for kung fu though!)*

oh, and if you feel good when you do yoga and/or pilates,

then DO IT! ^___^

Yoga and pilates are not aerobic exercises.
However, you can get your heart rate up if you do the exercises in succession and quickly enough but that is not really advised unless you really know what you are doing so you limit the risk of injury. Yoga is more for stretching/relaxing. Pilates is muscle conditioning/stretching. Aerobic means with oxygen and refers to exercises that get your heart rate up so that you are working your heart and your lungs. It's an important component of exercise. You could ride a bike. That would be sufficient for aerobic or cardiovascular exercise. You could also rollerblade.

Well, you are correct in your last sentence - you need to get your heart rate up in order for your exercise to be "aerobic." You could probably do that with Pilates. Yoga is great for peace of mind and mental relaxation. Have you considered stair climbing or stepping up and down on a stool, one foot at a time. I know that's sort of walking but maybe combined or worked in between each Pilate would help you get toned and be aerobic too.

Pilates would be aerobic, but yoga not so much. Aerobics are intended to get your heart pounding. Yoga is good for flexibility and strength, but it doesn't do much for your heart rate.
